Hey all! I am so excited to talk about this topic because concerts/ music festivals are my absolute favorite thing to go to! If you have never been to a music festival then I suggest pinching your pennies and buying a ticket ASAP. Personally, I suggest Coachella. There is a reason it is so talked about and from personal experience, that was the most amazing experience of my life. If you are going to a festival and have any questions on what to do or see comment below and I am happy to answer!
Here are some things to remember when going to a music festival:
1.WEAR YOUR WRIST BAND AT ALL TIMES!
This is no joke. The festival employees will warn you to wear your wristband tightly so it does not fall off. Please, take this seriously. If you decide to take it off or if it falls off, there is absolutely no other way to enter the gates of the festival and you do not get a back up wrist band. Use it wisely.
2. PICK A PLACE TO MEET UP IF YOU GET LOST
Understand, your phone will not work. In places like Coachella, you’re in the middle of the desert and there is no service. But even at festivals in the city like Lollapalooza, you will not get service because everyone else is trying to use their phones. Assume you won’t be able to reach each other and find a spot that is easily found in case you lose each other.
3. BRING A PORTABLE CHARGER (THAT IS FULLY CHARGED)
Even though you can not use your phones to call or text, you know you’ll try to. And that drains your battery. Also, even using it to take pictures and videos, in the heat, kills that battery quickly. Bring a charger that fits in your bag so you don’t miss a moment you wanted to capture.
4. WATER WATER WATER
Drink water. Just do it. Your body will thank you later.
5. BRING SUNSCREEN
If you are going to Coachella, Hangout fest, or really any other summertime festival, load up on sunscreen and set reminders on your phone to reapply. It is easy to get lost in the moment and forget but it is important to keep your skin safe.
6. WATCH OUT FOR DUST STORMS
They are real people! The best way to prepare for this is to bring sunglasses and bandannas. When that dust starts coming in it will get in your eyes and ears and mouth and yuck! Cover up and save yourself.
7. PACK FOR THE COLD, EVEN IF ITS HOT
This was my biggest mistake. Day 1 of Coachella was 100 degrees. Of course I wore practically nothing. But, when that sun went down it became a chilling 45 degrees. So bring a wrap or tie a jacket around your waist.
8. BRING A CAMERA
I mean, DUH! (of course disposable or Polaroid are the best)
9. BRING A FANNY PACK
Every festival has rules on bag size and most of them are small as heck. You will get annoyed carrying a bag around so having something that is small enough and sticks on your waist is the way to go!
10. MAKE A LIST OF WHO YOU WANT TO SEE
This is the most important thing to remember! DO NOT go into the festival thinking you will see every artist you want to. They overlap and often the stages are far away. Before going in make a list of who you want to see in order of importance and chart where and when they are playing.
11. DON’T BE ANNOYING
The best part of music festivals is the vibe. It is indescribable. But, there are always those people who push and shove and yell and become aggressive or are impatient. Just..don’t be that guy.
12. EXPRESS YOURSELF
This is a time to not care what other people think. Dress how you want, wear something over the top and crazy. Sing at the top of your lungs! No one will hear you over the music anyway. Dance like no one is watching! Because to be honest, you will regret it if you don’t.
REMEMBER: you will never get that moment back, so live in it!
